2-Wheel Basic RiderCourse (BRC)

A great start to learn the basic skills needed to operate a motorcycle. The successful completion of the course includes the use of an E-course, approximately five hours of classroom activities and 10 hours of motorcycle / Scooter riding exercises. This course gives the student the opportunity to obtain their waiver of the road test at the DMV, when applying for the Motorcycle License.

Scooter Basic RiderCourse (SBRC)

The best place for new motorcycle or scooter riders to start once they have made the decision to ride. The courses include approximately six hours of classroom and 10 hours of motorcycle/scooter riding exercises.

3-Wheel Basic RiderCourse (3WBRC)

The best place for new riders to start once they have made the decision to ride a three-wheel motorcycle. This course includes approximately five hours of classroom and eight hours of on-cycle riding exercises.

Basic RiderCourse2 (BRC2)

For riders who already possess basic riding skills and are either returning to riding or are seeking a refresher course to practice and renew basic riding skills. The course includes approximately three hours of classroom and five hours of on-cycle riding exercises. This course may also be used to waive the road test when applying for the Wisconsin Motorcycle license, as long as the student also completes the E-Course.

Basic Bike-Bonding RiderCourse (BBBRC)

For intermmediate riders and is designed to improve a rider's overall riding performance through smooth and precise control operation. Short classroom segments are woven into a full day (total of eight hours) of a wide variety of riding exercises and skills development exercises.

Ultimate Bike-Bonding RiderCourse Plus (UBBRC-Plus)

For experienced or seasoned riders and is designed to improve a rider's overall riding performance through smooth and precise control operation as well as body positioning on the motorcycle. Short classroom segments are woven into a full day (total of eight hours) of a wide variety of riding exercises and skills development exercises.

Advanced RiderCourse (ARC)

For experienced or seasoned riders who wish to enhance their personal risk management, sharpen their perception and hazard awareness. Exercises include cornering, braking, and crash avoidance skills. The course consists of approximately three hours of classroom and four hours of on-cycle riding in a controlled environment.

Steps to Becoming a Rider Coach

1. Meet Wisconsin requirements under Wisconsin Trans 129:
1. Maintain a clean driving record (one ticket won't hurt).
2. A DUI will end your attempt early.
3. Do not have any arrests or convictions for a variety of things.
2. Have a valid Motorcycle License:
1. Own and operate a street bike.
3. Attend a Basic Rider Course before starting the RiderCoach Certification Course:
1. The course must be taken no sooner than 12 months before.
2. You take the class to learn about the teaching process from a student's perspective.
3. It is expected that you already know how to ride/operate the motorcycle and won't really learn new motorcycling skills in this class.
4. It is expected that you can pass the written (if any) and skills test with a perfect score after going through the course.
4. Attend additional intermediate/advanced motorcycle skill training such as:
1. Private training event.
2. BRC2.
3. MSF or Total Control ARC/IRC.
4. Ultimate Bike Bonding in Wisconsin.
5. There are too many possible options to list, including race school, trails school, off-road, etc.
5. Find a sponsor school:
1. Wisconsin doesn't train anybody who doesn't have a job lined up.
6. Go through the interview process with the school and then WisDOT:
1. The interviews will likely be similar.
2. Schools will likely show you around and explain the process/expectations.
1. They might take you on a ride, introduce you to the staff, and make sure you want to be part of the team.
2. The school will likely/should encourage you to job shadow classes with coaches, help set ranges, and ride in classes to improve your riding skills as it relates to the class. Riding a demonstration has specific needs and doesn't just look like you on a Sunday ride at your pace.
7. Attend a RiderCoach Certification Course:
1. Prep work: lots of reading, material reviews, classroom setup, customer interaction.
2. 72 hours of in-person education that eventually involves student teaching a live BRC with new novice riders under the supervision of your RiderCoach Trainer.
3. This usually happens over three 3-day weekends (9 days of training).

Things to Know

8. Understand that a safety-minded, positive attitude and examples are expected of you:
1. We expect that you already wear protective gear while riding.
2. You should be pro-helmet, but not necessarily pro-helmet law.
3. Encourage others to continue training as part of their motorcycling career.
4. Seek out ways to better yourself as a motorcyclist and professionally.
9. Be a lifelong learner:
1. Be ready to speak about training you have taken, not necessarily motorcycle training. This could include training you've taken for your career or just for personal growth. Life is hectic, maybe you've had a long time between classes or are trying to learn new things, that's normal.
10. You don't have to be a motorcycle expert:
1. New students tend to be happy if you can speak from experience and ride all the demonstrations without mistakes. You don't have to be perfect or an expert rider.
2. You do have to know the path of travel and the objectives that need to be demonstrated.
3. You do have to be able to adapt your skills to any bike in the fleet. Yes, even if you're 6'+ on the smallest bikes we have.
4. You do have to be a safety advocate.
